News and updates from The Quality Care Pharmacy Program
Welcome to the February edition of the Quality Care Pharmacy Program - News and Updates.
As we head into the cooler months, this edition focuses on vaccination storage and effective cold chain management. Additionally, we have included resources to support those pharmacies who may have experienced non-conformances and are required to undertake corrective actions.

Temperature recording
Maintaining the correct temperature in your pharmacy’s dispensary refrigerators is crucial for ensuring the safety and efficacy of medicines. To stay compliant, record the maximum and minimum temperatures twice daily—once before the refrigerator is used and again at the end of the day.
Further information can be found on the QCPP Knowledge Hub along with the Strive for 5 Guidelines.

Cold Chain Certificates
Ensure your pharmacy certifies its dispensary refrigerators at least every 2 years to maintain compliance.
The following entities can certify dispensary refrigerators:
- The Cold Chain Testing Centre
- Some refrigerator manufacturers
- An Australian Refrigeration Council (ARC) licensed refrigerator technician
For compliance during a pharmacy’s assessment week, the cold chain certificate must be current to be deemed compliant.

CPR and First Aid certificates
CPR and First Aid certificates must be renewed at different intervals.
- First Aid Certificates are valid for 3 years.
- CPR Certification needs to be renewed annually to ensure your training stays current and meets the latest standards.
Make sure your certificates are up to date for the safety of your team and patients. For more details, expand the '4.3 Safety and Security' tab on this page.

Common Corrective Actions
We’ve compiled a list of common corrective actions from recent assessments.
To learn more about different types of corrective actions, including examples and guidance on closing them out, complete the Corrective Actions Short Course on the QCPP website. This short, 15-minute course provides clear insights into the process.

Completing Non-Conformances
To maintain your pharmacy’s accreditation, you must complete Corrective Actions within the 60 to 90 day time frame.
- Non–Conformances must be completed within 60 days of the interim report being issued.
- Remedial Actions must be completed within 90 days.
Beginning the Corrective Actions process soon after your interim report is issued gives your pharmacy time to receive support and feedback for evidence submitted during that time.
After submitting evidence for Corrective Actions, continue checking the QCPP Customer Portal for feedback from your assessor to ensure you’re on track.
